{"id":55,"date":"2006-09-12T23:47:26","date_gmt":"2006-09-13T03:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/?p=55"},"modified":"2006-09-13T14:09:58","modified_gmt":"2006-09-13T18:09:58","slug":"nyc-09122006-end-of-the-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/?p=55","title":{"rendered":"NYC 09\/12\/2006 &#8211; End of the journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I took the car around NYC to show it off, and get one last day of driving in before the temporary plates expired.<\/p>\n<p>The Holland Tunnel, heading toward NYC:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5523-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Greenwich St, looking south at the new 7 WTC:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5532-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An amused mounted officer, who said she thought she had the coolest ride in the city, until she saw my Atom:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5542-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Empire State Building:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5553-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Macy&#8217;s department store:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5554-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An amused onlooker in front of the Empire State Building:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5558-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, the large crowd the Atom drew was creating a &#8220;security incident&#8221; by blocking the sidewalk, so I was informed I had to leave:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5567-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So I pulled the Atom over a few blocks south of Grand Central and started up again:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5574-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5578-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Times Square:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5586-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A sightseeing bus in the mirror:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5591-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More interested onlookers:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5593-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After this, I drove my car to my BMW dealership (BMW of Bayside) where productivity ground to a halt as everyone emptied out of the shop to see the Atom:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5599-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My business partner, Bob Tinkelman:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5601-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bob&#8217;s friend Suad takes the Atom around the block:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atomacrossamerica.org\/6F5S5606-s.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the end, 7006 miles in 42 days.
